Since 1970, Mexico's energy demand has steadily increased, rising by an average of 1.6% each year. In 2023, Mexico ranked 13th globally in energy consumption, but was surpassed by Indonesia, which also consumed 8.8 exajoules. The top three consumers of energy in 2023 were the United States, India, and Russia, respectively.
