Mauritania is projected to experience a 3.5% year-on-year increase in malaria cases between 2021 and 2026. In 2021, the country had around 42,000 cases, with Somalia leading the way with 33,700. Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Mozambique followed in second, third and fourth place respectively. Since 2011, malaria prevalence in Mauritania has grown by almost 8%.
