Child mortality in Sri Lanka is set to drop by 9.4% each year on average over the next five years, with 1,170 deaths expected by 2026. This is a marked reduction from the 2,080 deaths recorded in 2021, which placed Sri Lanka 95th in the global rankings – behind Japan. India, Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo were the only countries with higher mortality rates. Immunisation coverage of 12-23 month olds in Sri Lanka is expected to reach 100% by 2026, up 0.2 points each year on average. The country ranked 6th in the world in 2021 with 99% of children vaccinated. Andorra, Greece, Mongolia and Latvia had the highest rates in the world.
