Indonesia is projected to increase its agricultural area to 28.6 million hectares by 2026. This growth of 0.8% a year on average is a continuation of the steady rise in the country's supply of agricultural area since 1966, when it increased by 1.6% a year. In 2021, Indonesia ranked 14th in the world in terms of agricultural area, with Kazakhstan overtaking it with 27.2 million hectares. India, Russia and China ranked second, third and fourth, respectively.
