Container traffic in Mexico is expected to reach 8.1 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) by 2026. This is an increase of 2.4% on average each year since 2021, when the figure was 6.9 million TEUs. Over the past 16 years, from 2005 to 2021, the demand has grown by 3.9% year on year. Mexico was the 25th biggest economy for container traffic in 2021, behind Sri Lanka, which recorded 6.9 million TEUs. The United States, Singapore and South Korea were the top three countries, in that order.
