Ugandan metal imports are projected to rise significantly over the next five years. In 2021, the country imported 0.88 million metric tons of metal, and this number is expected to reach 1.01 million metric tons by 2026. This marks a 2.3% average annual growth rate since 1999, when the country imported just 0.66 million metric tons of metal. In 2021, Uganda ranked 98th globally in metal imports, behind Albania at 97th. Japan, South Korea, and Germany were the top three metal importers in 2021, with the latter importing a whopping 37.9 million metric tons.
