Japan is set to remain a major importer of metal globally. According to a forecast, imports of metal into the country will reach 174.27 million metric tons by 2026. This is a 0.3% year-on-year growth on average since 1975. In 2021, Japan came in second place in terms of metal imports, at 170.79 million metric tons. This was slightly lower than China, which led the pack at the same time. South Korea and Germany followed in third and fourth place respectively.
