Korea is projected to be the 44th biggest bioenergy consumer by 2026. Consumption is set to grow at an average rate of 0.5% annually, from 82.64 million metric tons in 2021 to 83.9 million metric tons in 2026. Since 1975, demand for bioenergy in Korea has grown at an average rate of 1.3% each year. The country was ranked 44th in the world in 2021, behind Cameroon, which consumed 82.64 million metric tons. India, Brazil and the United States ranked second, third and fourth, respectively.
