I-Kiribati's Copper Import is set to increase significantly in the next five years. By 2026, imports are expected to reach $1.6 million, a 4.1% annual growth rate since 2021. This is a marked increase since 2004, when the growth rate was a comparatively modest 2.2%. In 2021, I-Kiribati ranked 124th among global importers, just below Greenland in 123rd place ($1.2 million). Germany, the United States and Italy were the top three importers, respectively. Export of Copper from I-Kiribati also saw a significant increase in 2016, reaching nearly $115,000 compared to the $40,000 recorded in 2015.
