Ethiopia's livestock production is poised for growth. By 2026, the number of heads is predicted to reach nearly 50 million, an increase of 1.4% annually since 1998. In 2021, Ethiopia ranked seventh, behind Indonesia which led the way with 45.5 million heads. Brazil, India and the United States rounded out the top four. Import of livestock is also on the rise. By 2026, the number is set to reach $12 million, a 2.6% year-on-year growth rate since 2000. In 2021, Ethiopia was 81st, with India topping the list at $10.2 million. Germany, Italy and the Netherlands were numbers two, three and four, respectively.
