Costa Rican livestock production is predicted to increase slightly to 1.6 million heads by 2026, up from 1.5 million in 2021. Since 1966, the country’s supply has grown by an average of 1.1% annually. In 2021, Costa Rica was the 107th largest producer of livestock, behind the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Brazil, India and the United States ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. Meanwhile, imports of livestock products into Costa Rica are expected to remain at around $10 million in 2026, just 0.2% more than in 2021. However, since 1999, demand for these products has dropped by 13.2% annually. Last year, the country was 83rd in this ranking, behind Bolivia. Germany, Italy and the Netherlands took the next three spots.
