Kenya's imports and exports of phosphate saw a huge jump in 2018. Imports rose by 29.1%, from $30,760 to $39,720, and exports surged 1,970%, from $7,090 to $147,100. This marked the biggest year-on-year increase since 1997. In 2018, Kenya placed 76th in the world for phosphate imports, overtaken by Costa Rica. The United States, Indonesia and Lithuania followed in the top four. Meanwhile, Germany topped the export rankings, with Jordan, Russia and Peru coming in second, third and fourth. Over the past two decades, imports have decreased by 38.6%, while exports have increased by 9.8%.
