In 2018, Peru imported 2.5 kilograms of lithium, a 99.8 percent decrease from 2017's 982.41 kilograms. Since 1997, the country's demand for lithium has dropped by 65.3 percent year-on-year. Namibia surpassed Peru in the 2018 ranking, coming in at number 85. China, Japan and the United States ranked numbers 2, 3 and 4, respectively. Exports of lithium from Peru soared 4,340 percent in 2018, with 7,780 kilograms. This was up from 2017's 175 kilograms. Peru ranked number 29 in 2018, with Australia taking the lead at 7,780 kilograms. Argentina, Belgium and China were numbers 2, 3 and 4, respectively.
