In 2021, Portugal ranked 27th in the world in terms of lithium imports, while Denmark overtook with 72,350 kilograms. China, Japan and the United States were ranked second, third and fourth respectively. Portuguese supply of lithium is projected to reach 1,170 kilograms by 2026, rising at an average annual rate of 3%. Since 2009, supplies have increased by 94.8% each year. In 2021, Portugal ranked 38th in the world in terms of lithium exports, while Romania overtook with 981.2 kilograms. Argentina, Belgium and China were ranked second, third and fourth respectively.
