In 2021, South Africa was ranked 40th in the world for graphite exports, behind Denmark ($63.8 million). Brazil, Germany and the United States held the second, third and fourth positions, respectively. Meanwhile, South African imports of graphite are predicted to decline by 3% year-on-year to around $645 million by 2026. Since 2005, demand for this product has decreased by an annual average of 1.2%. In 2021, South Africa was placed 36th in the world for graphite imports, lagging behind Ukraine ($772.4 million). South Korea, the United States and Germany held the second, third and fourth spots, respectively.
