Batswana's imports of silica sand are expected to plummet to 153,000 kilograms by 2026, a 27.3% decrease from the 871,000 kilograms imported in 2021. Since 2005, Batswana demand has decreased by 26.8% year on year. In 2021, Japan was the largest importer, with 871,000 kilograms, followed by Slovenia, Singapore and Belgium. The country's export of silica sand rose to 1,600 kilograms in 2018, a 38.2% increase from the 1,160 kilograms exported in 2017. Since 2005, however, Batswana's supply has decreased by 51.2%. In 2018, Malta was the leading exporter, at 1,600 kilograms, followed by the United States, Belgium and Germany.
