Bulgaria's export of silica sand is expected to reach around 535 million kilograms by 2026, up 1.4% on average each year since 2001. In 2021, the country was the 11th largest exporter, with 490.9 million kilograms of silica sand, behind Hungary. The United States, Belgium and Germany were the second, third and fourth largest exporters, respectively. Meanwhile, Bulgaria's import of silica sand dropped 23.4% in 2021 to around 1.7 million kilograms, compared to 2.2 million kilograms in 2020. Since 2001, the country's demand has declined by 21.9%. It was the 80th largest importer in 2021, with Malta surpassing it at 1.7 million kilograms. Slovenia, Singapore and Belgium were the second, third and fourth largest importers, respectively.
