Moldavian silica sand exports are set to grow steadily over the next five years. Last year, the country exported 25,940 kilograms, ranking it 79th in the world. This was up 3.1% year-on-year since 2003. Lebanon was the top exporter, overtaking Moldavia with 32,380 kilograms. The United States, Belgium and Germany followed in second, third and fourth place. Moldavian silica sand imports also saw a sharp increase in 2018, rising 45.5% from 1,297,600 kilograms in 2017 to 1,887,700 kilograms. However, since 1999, overall demand for the mineral has declined by 6% year-on-year.
