Global milk production is expected to reach nearly 980 million metric tons by 2026, up from 912 million metric tons in 2021 – a 1.2% year-on-year average growth rate. This marks a steady 2.3% year-on-year increase since 1966. India led the way in 2021, with 199 million metric tons of production. The United States Virgin Islands, Pakistan, and Brazil followed in second, third, and fourth place, respectively. Colombia saw a 30.5% year-on-year rise, while Fiji dipped 12% year-on-year since 1966. European milk consumption, meanwhile, is expected to drop a slight 0.1% year-on-year, to €23.2 billion by 2026 from €23.4 billion in 2021. This follows a 0.8% year-on-year increase since 2016. Germany led the continent in 2021, with €5.5 billion in consumption. The United Kingdom, Italy, and France followed in second, third, and fourth place, respectively. Romania saw a 6.3% year-on-year jump, while Finland was down 3.3% year-on-year since 2016.
