Global consumption of tomatoes is projected to reach 161 million metric tons by 2026, up from 158 million in 2021. This represents a compound annual growth rate of 0.3% between 2017 and 2021. In 2021, China topped the list of tomato consumers with 55 million tons, followed by India, the United States and Egypt. Afghanistan saw the largest year-on-year growth of 192%, while Mongolia saw the biggest decrease of 21%. Global production of tomatoes is expected to reach 199 million metric tons by 2026, up from 187 million in 2021. This is an average annual growth rate of 1.1% since 1966. In 2021, China was the world's leading producer of tomatoes, with 66 million tons. India, the United States and Egypt were ranked second, third and fourth, respectively. Oman saw the highest year-on-year growth of 20%, while Luxembourg saw the biggest decrease of 40%.
