Italian demand for tomatoes is on the rise. Consumption is set to reach 2.2 million metric tons by 2026, a 0.1% increase year-on-year on average. Since 2017, Italian demand has grown 1.4% annually. In 2021, Italy ranked 13th in the world, while Uzbekistan came in first with 2.2 million metric tons. India, the United States and Egypt followed respectively. Italian tomato production is also projected to decrease. Output is set to drop to 4.9 million metric tons by 2026, a 1.1% decrease year-on-year on average. Since 1966, production has declined 3.8% year-on-year. In 2021, Egypt was the top producer at 5.3 million metric tons, followed by India, the United States and Egypt.
