Brazilian consumption of tomatoes is expected to fall slightly in the coming years. In 2021, Brazil ranked 6th in tomato consumption, with 3.9 million metric tons. This was 0.2% lower than the previous year. Iran overtook Brazil and was number 1, with 3.9 million metric tons. India, the United States and Egypt respectively came in numbers 2, 3 and 4 in this ranking. On the production side, Brazil is forecast to produce 4.1 million metric tons of tomatoes by 2026, growing at an average rate of 0.2% year on year. This compares to 4 million metric tons in 2021, which was 0.7% lower than in 1966. Mexico was ahead of Brazil in 2021, with 4.0 million metric tons. India, the United States and Egypt respectively were numbers 2, 3 and 4 in this ranking.
