Global demand for polystyrene is forecast to drop by 0.4% year on year from 2021 to 2026, to reach 2.1 billion kilograms. This figure is down 0.6% from 2017. At the same time, global supply of polystyrene is expected to rise 0.7% year on year from 2021 to 2026, to reach 1.8 billion kilograms. This is an increase of 3.4% since 2016. Mexico was the leading exporter of polystyrene in 2021, with 362 million kilograms. China, the Netherlands and France came in second, third and fourth respectively. Malaysia saw a dramatic increase, rising by 171.6% year on year since 2016, while Egypt fell by 79.2% year on year in the same period.
