European iron imports are predicted to drop slightly this year, to 324,650 thousand metric tons in 2026 from 328,410 thousand metric tons in 2021. This marks a decrease of 0.2% year-on-year since 2016. Germany led the way in terms of imports in 2021, at 74,260 thousand metric tons. Italy, France, and the Netherlands followed in second, third, and fourth place,respectively. Meanwhile, Cyprus saw a 15.3% increase in imports year-on-year, while the UK decreased by 2.5%. European iron exports are forecasted to remain steady at 231,480 thousand metric tons in 2026 from 230,910 thousand metric tons in 2021. This marks an increase of 0.7% year-on-year since 2016. Germany was the leading exporter in 2021, at 35,870 thousand metric tons. Sweden, France, and Italy were the second, third, and fourth largest exporters, respectively. Cyprus experienced a 13.2% rise in exports year-on-year, while Iceland saw a 2.8% decrease.
