Global airline revenue is projected to decline from $123 billion in 2023 to $86 billion by 2028, representing an average annual decrease of 1.1%. This downturn comes despite a modest year-on-year growth of 1.2% since 2019. In 2023, the United States led the global rankings in airline revenue, generating $42 billion. Germany, Ireland, and Russia followed in the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. This trend continues the historical growth pattern of 2.5% per year since 1975. The United States also held the top spot in global air passenger traffic in 2023, with nearly 951 million passengers. China, India, and Ireland followed in the subsequent rankings. Among the notable changes, Syria saw a dramatic year-on-year increase of 131.4% in passenger traffic, whereas Malawi experienced a significant decline of 43.2% since 1975.
