In 2023, Italy led global local government expenditures on health with 49.21%, followed by Nordic countries, Sweden (26.85%), Finland (26.57%), and Denmark (24.99%). Most of these countries experienced modest changes except for Slovenia with a significant 1.99% rise. On the other hand, major economies like Germany and France invested minimally at 2.2% and 0.72%, respectively. Notably, countries like Hungary and Spain saw significant decreases of -15.55% and -2.61%.

Looking ahead, attention should focus on improving countries with low investment in public health. Furthermore, shifts in global health priorities might spur increased spending in typically low-expenditure areas like Germany, France, and South Korea.
