In 2023, the United Kingdom led European healthcare expenditure on hospitals by government schemes with 98.79 billion Euros. Italy and Spain followed at 69.34 and 56.79 billion Euros respectively. Germany, despite a lower expenditure of 16.48 billion Euros, experienced a significant increase of 20.6% compared to the previous year. Notable year-on-year changes include Belgium with a 26.82% increase and the Czech Republic with a remarkable 42.03% rise. Bosnia and Herzegovina had the highest growth rate at 68.23%, albeit from a lower base. These trends underscore a varied growth landscape across Europe, influenced by economic, demographic, and policy factors.
