European Generated Packaging Waste by Country

In 2023, Germany led European packaging waste generation with 19.867 million metric tons, reflecting a 1.05% increase from the prior year. Italy and France followed with 13.74 and 13.417 million metric tons, respectively, while Poland and Spain saw noticeable growth at 4.91% and 3.63%. Romania showcased the most significant rise with a 13.41% increase. Conversely, Cyprus experienced a decline by 2.28%. Over a five-year period, notable average annual growth was observed in Ireland at 5.08% and Sweden at 4.95%.

Looking ahead, factors such as digitalization in recycling, stricter regulations, and evolving consumer preferences will likely shape Europe's packaging waste landscape.
