In 2023, Finland led European healthcare expenditure on home-based long-term care by hospitals, with a significant 8.35% year-on-year growth, followed by the Netherlands with a striking 32.95% increase. Poland and Spain also recorded notable growth rates of 7.02% and 6.29%, respectively. In contrast, Belgium experienced a 2.16% decline. Smaller economies, like Slovenia and Lithuania, had impressive growth of 153.65% and 65.28%, reflecting emerging investments in home-based care. Over the past five years, investment in this sector has shown a consistent increase in Finland and the Netherlands, while countries like Iceland remained stagnant.

Looking ahead, we expect continuous growth in home-based long-term care expenditures, driven by an aging population, increased preference for in-home care, and advancements in healthcare technology. The Netherlands may continue experiencing strong growth due to its established infrastructure, whereas countries like Slovenia and Lithuania are likely to see accelerated investments as they develop new strategies for home care delivery.
