European Healthcare Expenditure on Home Based Long-Term Care by Residential Long-Term Care Facilities by Country

In 2023, healthcare expenditure on home-based long-term care by residential facilities showed significant variation across European countries. Notably, the Netherlands and Finland led with substantial expenditures of 4.6 billion and 3.63 billion euros respectively. While Ireland and Malta reported moderate spending, Eastern European countries such as Poland, Latvia, and Lithuania had significantly lower expenditures.

Year-on-year variation showed Finland widely increased by 11.13%, indicating growing investment. Netherlands also rose modestly by 2.67%, while Czech Republic recorded a significant increase of 25.44%. Conversely, Poland and Lithuania showed negative growth. Over the last five years, expenditure has seen fluctuating trends, with healthcare policies heavily influencing spending in this sector.

In the future, Europe’s aging population and policy shifts toward sustained home care resources are anticipated to drive increased expenditure. This trend may also highlight a shift in country-specific strategies, focusing on enhancing elderly care and residential facility integration with home-based care systems.
