Global beer consumption is forecast to drop 0.6% annually to reach 166.6 million metric tons by 2026. Consumption has been declining at an average of 0.3% each year since 2017. In 2021, China topped the chart with 38.1 million metric tons, followed by the United States, Brazil, and Germany. Iran's consumption rose 23.6%, while Turkmenistan's fell 100% since 2017. Global beer production is expected to grow 0.6% each year, reaching 199.1 million metric tons by 2026. Supply has been increasing at an average rate of 0.2% since 1966. In 2021, China was again number one with 40.8 million metric tons, followed by the United States, Brazil, and Mexico. Mali's production rose 58.7%, while Syria's dropped 23.7% since 1966. European beer sales are projected to grow 0.5% annually to reach €43.8 billion by 2026. The market has been increasing 2.4% each year since 2016. Germany led the way in 2021 with €10.6 billion, followed by the United Kingdom, Spain, and Belgium. Sweden's sales rose 10.2%, while Greece's decreased 5.1% since 2016.
