This represents an average annual decrease of 0.7%. Historically, the country has experienced a 1.8% yearly reduction in freight volume since 1975. In the 2023 rankings, France was the sixth-largest in terms of shipping freight volume. Belgium narrowly surpassed France, also recording 6,620 million tonne-kilometers. Leading the rankings, the Netherlands, Germany, and Romania secured the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.
