This decline represents an average annual drop of 3.1%. Historically, since 1975, Germany's freight volume has been on a downward trend, shrinking by an average of 1.5% per year. Despite this, Germany held the third position globally in 2023. Leading the rankings, the Netherlands posted a freight volume of approximately 43.5 billion tonne-kilometers, surpassing Germany. Following Germany, Romania secured the fourth spot in the global rankings.
