Demand for coconuts in Ghana is projected to decline over the next five years. According to a recent report by MarketWatch, imports are expected to drop by 1.3% year-on-year, from an estimated 165,800 metric tons in 2021 to 162,500 metric tons by 2026. This follows a decrease of 0.7% year-on-year between 2017 and 2021. Meanwhile, Ghanaian coconut production is estimated to grow by 1.1% year-on-year, from an estimated 413,730 metric tons in 2021 to 440,780 metric tons by 2026. This follows a growth of 1.7% year-on-year between 1966 and 2021. Ghana was the 16th largest producer in 2021, with Tanzania overtaking it with 413,730 metric tons. India, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka were the top three producers respectively.
