Maldives has seen a dramatic fall in coconut imports this year. In 2021, the country imported zero thousand metric tons, a drastic decrease from the 0 thousand metric tons imported in 2020. From 2018 to 2019, the country increased its coconut production by 20.9%, from 225 metric tons to 272 metric tons. However, this still marks an 8.5% decline since 1966. In 2019, Brunei overtook Maldives in production, ranking 84th in the world. India, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka held the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ranks respectively.
