Uganda's banana consumption is projected to drop slightly over the next five years. In 2021, the country consumed 496,000 metric tons of bananas, down 0.3% from the previous year. This is a trend that has been seen since 2017, when banana consumption dropped 0.3% year over year. Uganda ranked 30th in the world in 2021, while South Africa led the pack with 505,000 metric tons. China, Indonesia and Brazil, respectively, took the second, third and fourth spots. Meanwhile, Ugandan banana production is expected to decline by 0.4% year on year CAGR over the same period. Production dropped 0.7% year on year since 1966. In 2021, the country produced 526,280 metric tons of bananas, placing it in 29th place. Ethiopia topped the list with 539,910 metric tons, while China, Indonesia and Brazil took the next three spots.
