Surinamese banana consumption is on the rise. By 2026, it is predicted to reach 10 thousand metric tons, up from 8 thousand metric tons in 2021. This equates to an average growth rate of 3% year on year since 2017. Suriname was the 121st biggest consumer of bananas in 2021, with Guinea-Bissau overtaking it with 8 thousand metric tons. China, Indonesia and Brazil respectively ranked numbers 2, 3 and 4 in this ranking. Surinamese banana production, however, is on the decline. By 2026, it is predicted to reach 37 thousand metric tons, down from 46 thousand metric tons in 2021. This equates to a CAGR of 3.5% year on year since 1966. Suriname was the 63rd biggest producer of bananas in 2021, with Jamaica overtaking it with 46 thousand metric tons. China, Indonesia and Brazil respectively ranked numbers 2, 3 and 4 in this ranking.
