Demand is projected to grow 2% yearly from 654,000 metric tons in 2021 up to 744,000 metric tons in 2026. Since 2017, consumption has increased 2.6% year on year. Italy overtook the Dominican Republic as the 23rd largest consumer in 2021. China, Indonesia, and Brazil came in respectively at 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place in the ranking. Meanwhile, banana production is projected to grow 1.9% yearly from 1,275,000 metric tons in 2021 up to 1,428,900 metric tons in 2026. Since 1966, supply has grown 2.3% year on year. Egypt overtook the Dominican Republic as the 18th largest producer in 2021. China, Indonesia, and Brazil came in respectively at 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the ranking.
