Maldives is projected to consume 2,000 metric tonnes of bananas in 2026 - a figure that has remained stable since 2017. In 2021, the country was ranked 134th in banana consumption, with New Caledonia overtaking it at 2,000 metric tonnes. China, Indonesia and Brazil took the top three spots. In 2019, Maldives produced 220 metric tonnes of bananas, a 34.1% decrease from the 334 metric tonnes produced in 2018. Since 1966, the country's production has decreased by 19.4% year on year. It was ranked 112th in 2019, with Antigua and Barbuda overtaking it at 220 metric tonnes. China, Indonesia and Brazil were again the top three producers.
