Since 2019, demand for wine in Japan has consistently increased at the same rate. In 2023, Japan ranked 13th globally in wine consumption, with Canada edging ahead with a similar consumption level. Leading the rankings were France, the United States, and Italy, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. On the production front, Japan's wine output is expected to remain relatively stable, reaching around 79,000 metric tons by 2028, down slightly from 79,300 metric tons in 2023. The country's wine production has seen a marginal annual decline of 0.1% since 1966. In 2023, Japan was the 23rd largest wine producer, with Romania taking its spot at the same production level. France, Spain, and the United States were the top three producers in this category.
