Maltese wine consumption is projected to decline slightly over the next five years. By 2028, consumption is expected to reach approximately 7,900 metric tons, down from 8,000 metric tons in 2023, marking a modest annual decrease of 0.1%. Since 2019, the demand for wine in Malta has remained stable. In global rankings for 2023, Malta held the 72nd position for wine consumption, with Cameroon surpassing it at 8,000 metric tons. Leading the list were France, the United States, and Italy, occupying the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively. On the production front, Maltese wine output is anticipated to fall to around 1,530 metric tons by 2028, down from 1,750 metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual decline of 2.1%. Historical data since 1966 shows a consistent decrease in Maltese wine production at the same annual rate. In the 2023 production rankings, Malta stood at 57th place, with Zimbabwe overtaking it at 1,750 metric tons. France, Spain, and the United States were prominent producers, ranking second, third, and fourth, respectively.
