Italian production of eggplant is expected to drop slightly over the next five years, according to new figures. Current production stands at around 300,000 metric tons, and is forecast to reach around 298,000 metric tons by 2026. This represents a drop of around 0.2 percent each year on average. Since 1966, production has decreased by an average of 1 percent per year. Italy is currently the sixth-largest producer of eggplant, with Indonesia in the top spot at 301,350 metric tons. India, Egypt and Iran are the second, third and fourth largest producers respectively.
