Ecuador's processed fish export slumped by 17.3% in 2021, to 6.2 million kilograms, compared to the previous year. This marks a 22.5% drop since 1997. India overtook Ecuador as the number 20 exporter, while Thailand, Slovenia, and Spain came in second, third, and fourth place respectively. The country also experienced a 37.8% decrease in processed fish import, down to 4,890 kilograms in 2021, compared to the previous year. This marks a 17.2% decline since 1996. Saint Lucia overtook Ecuador, ranking number 119, while Italy, France, and Spain came in second, third, and fourth place respectively.
