Since 1997, Chinese demand for imports has grown by 12.2% year on year, while supply of exports has increased by 2.4%. In 2021, China was the top importer of processed fish, at 28 million kilograms, followed by Spain (22 million kilograms), Italy (20 million kilograms) and France (16 million kilograms). For exports, Thailand was the top importer (76 million kilograms), followed by Slovenia (63 million kilograms) and Spain (61 million kilograms). China is expected to remain the leader in processed fish imports and exports until 2026. Imports are forecast to reach 28 million kilograms by 2026, while exports are projected to reach 266 million kilograms.
