Sri Lankan coffee consumption is projected to reach approximately 7,100 metric tons by 2028, up from around 7,000 metric tons in 2023. This marks a modest annual growth rate of 0.2%. Since 2019, the demand for coffee in Sri Lanka has remained steady. In 2023, Sri Lanka ranked 86th globally, with Jamaica slightly ahead at 7,000 metric tons. The top three countries in terms of coffee consumption were the United States, Germany, and Japan. On the production front, Sri Lanka's coffee output is expected to decline slightly. By 2028, production is forecasted to hit nearly 35,000 bags of 60 kg each, down from roughly 36,000 bags in 2023. This represents an annual decrease of 0.3%. Since 1995, Sri Lankan coffee supply has seen a similar annual decline of 0.3%. In 2023, the country was ranked 40th in global coffee production, just behind Angola, which produced about 36,000 bags of 60 kg. The leading producers were Vietnam, Colombia, and Indonesia.
