Lao Coffee Consumption on the Rise Lao coffee consumption is set to increase significantly, reaching approximately 159,000 metric tons by 2028. This marks an ascent from the 144,000 metric tons recorded in 2023, reflecting an average annual growth rate of 1.6%. Since 2019, Lao coffee demand has consistently grown at the same annual rate. In the global ranking for 2023, Laos held the 12th position, with Spain just ahead, also at 144,000 metric tons. The United States, Germany, and Japan occupied the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively. Production Growth Steady Lao coffee production is also on the up. By 2028, it is projected to reach around 583,000 bags of 60 kg each, up from roughly 549,000 bags in 2023. This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 0.9%. The country's coffee supply has been growing at an annual rate of 1.8% since 2003. In 2023, Laos ranked 18th globally, with Papua New Guinea marginally ahead, also at 549,000 bags. Vietnam, Colombia, and Indonesia held the second, third, and fourth positions in the production ranking, respectively.
