Since 1996, the country has seen a steady 6.4 percent year-on-year growth. In 2021, Nicaragua ranked 63rd in the world for pepper production, with the Philippines overtaking it at 23,160 metric tons. Mexico, Indonesia, and Spain were the top three producers, respectively.
