Maldivian oilseed consumption is projected to remain steady at approximately 1,000 metric tons annually from 2023 to 2028. This stability follows a consistent demand observed since 2019. In 2023, the Maldives ranked 145th globally in oilseed consumption, with Kyrgyzstan surpassing the nation at an equivalent volume of 1,000 metric tons. Leading the global rankings were India, Indonesia, and Brazil, occupying the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively. On the production front, the Maldives saw a significant increase in oilseed output, reaching 35 metric tons in 2019, up from 29 metric tons in 2018. This 20.7% rise marked a notable year-over-year growth. However, a long-term view since 1966 reveals an average annual decline of 8.6% in Maldivian oilseed supply.
