Taiwanese tomato consumption is expected to decrease slightly over the next five years. In 2021, the country consumed 137 thousand metric tons of tomatoes and is projected to reach 132 thousand by 2026. This marks a 0.6% year-on-year decrease since 2017. Taiwan ranked 73rd in 2021, behind Macedonia which consumed 137 thousand metric tons. India, the US and Egypt were the top three tomato consumers in the world. Meanwhile, Taiwan's tomato production is projected to drop 1.6% year-on-year to 92,710 metric tons by 2026. This represents a 3.1% decrease since 1966. Serbia overtook Taiwan in 2021 with a production of 101,860 metric tons. India, the US and Egypt were the top three tomato producers in the world.
