Solar energy capacity in Greece is set to surge over the next five years. In 2021, the country's solar capacity stood at 3,530 megawatts - ninth in the world - but this is expected to reach 4,270 megawatts by 2026, growing at a 3.3% year-on-year average rate. Since 2006, Greek solar supply has risen by 6.3% year-on-year. Meanwhile, solar energy consumption in the country is also on the rise. In 2021, Greece achieved 0.05 exajoules - again, ninth in the world - but this is forecast to increase to 0.06 exajoules by 2026, growing by a 3% year-on-year average rate. Since 2014, the country's demand has risen by 5.2% year-on-year. Belgium led the 2021 ranking in solar consumption, followed by Italy, Spain and France, respectively.
